It Doesn't Help to Complain

One thing I love about moving to a new country is all the sayings that you pick up. Here in South Africa you have quite a lot of them.

For example, when things are hectic, you say, "Shame... Would you like some tea?" I hear that one said for everything!

I have also often heard this one: "It doesn’t help to complain". Not that this stops people from complaining!

But this last saying does have a lot of merit to it. Because let's face facts - sometimes life is tough. When the economy takes a turn for the worst, or your dreams seem to never materialize, or you face illness, all you feel like doing is complaining!

Sometimes all you feel like doing is saying, "Why Lord!" Why is everyone else having an easier time than me, and why am I just continuing to struggle? And if you know a few principles, you start trying to find the right one to pull out to make everything better. But sooner rather than later you discover that it doesn't change the way you feel. What is the solution then?

Well, you could try to wait for everything else in your life to come in line so you can feel better, but you and I both know that that doesn't last. There is always going to be something in your life that is going to push on those buttons. If it is not finances, then it's relationships. If it's not relationships, then it is health. The list goes on and on and on.

The secret is to stop looking at how you feel, what you need, and what you want. Instead, start looking at what God has promised you and do what the Lord has told you to do, no matter what that is.

Out of the twelve spies who went into the promised land, what made Joshua and Caleb different? They all saw the same things, ate the same food, and heard the same words. However, only the two of them looked at the promise and not the problem.

Complaining and getting dissatisfied with life comes from focusing on your problems, of which there are an endless supply in life. Instead, look to the Lord, from where your help comes from, and hold on to the promises that He has spoken to you.

How many times have you received a powerful word from God? A word that you knew that you knew was an answer to your prayer? And for a moment you were on top of the world, right? What happened? Simple - You let the cares of life be your focus instead of the promises of God.

Yes, your problems are real. And yes, the world's problems are real too. Everybody knows about them. Big deal. What is your promised land that God has given you? Proverbs says that he who works his land will have abundant bread.

So stop allowing your needs to overwhelm you and start rising up in faith. That is what is going to move the hand of God, and that is the only thing that will bring you joy, and give you the solution to every problem that you have.

So rise up today. Stop looking at the negative, and the lack, rather look at what God has given you, and you will see Him move on your behalf!

With Love and Blessings
